Rio Live Earth Concert Canned

I   RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL—A judge canceled Saturday's Live Earth concert in Rio after officials said the police presence would be insufficient to contain the crowd, which was expected to top 700,000, the Associated Press has reported.

Live Earth organizers said they will appeal the decision and hope to restore the concert, which was to feature Lenny Kravitz, Macy Gray, Pharrell Williams, MV Bill and Jorge Ben.

The concert was part of a global event to increase awareness of climate change, with simultaneous concerts to take place in London, Johannesburg, Shanghai, Tokyo, Sydney and East Rutherford, N.J.

“It was just that suddenly … I could hear it,” Ravi Coltrane said of an epiphany he experienced during his late teens regarding his father’s music. “And it was almost like a calling, like something saying, ‘Hey, man, come on. It’s time to get serious.’ And the first time you really tune in and dial in and focus like that, it can be very life-changing.”
