Rare Aretha Franklin Recordings Slated For Release

I   Rhino Records will release Aretha Franklin's Rare & Unreleased Recordings From The Golden Reign Of The Queen Of Soul on Oct. 16.

The two-disc collection combines unreleased demos, outtakes and B-sides of Franklin in the studio. The release also includes a live duet with Ray Charles on a televised salute to Duke Ellington.

“We've discovered a treasure trove of vintage Aretha that's nothing short of thrilling," Franklin producer Jerry Wexler wrote in the album's liner notes. "Aretha's outtakes are the sort of performances most artists would be proud to call first choices.”

“It was just that suddenly … I could hear it,” Ravi Coltrane said of an epiphany he experienced during his late teens regarding his father’s music. “And it was almost like a calling, like something saying, ‘Hey, man, come on. It’s time to get serious.’ And the first time you really tune in and dial in and focus like that, it can be very life-changing.”
