Premonition To Release Two Box Sets

I   Premonition Records has announced the release of two box sets: Patricia Barber, The Premonition Years: 1994-2002 and Best of Von Freeman on Premonition. Both sets will be released in the U.S. on Sept. 25.

The sets chronicle the two most important, and extensive, musical relationships in the short 13-year history of Premonition Records. Vocalist/pianist Patricia Barber made five records for Premonition, beginning with 1994's Cafe Blue, and including her breakout Modern Cool, which garnered a rare five-star DownBeat review. Von Freeman delivered four albums to the label, the first of which was 2001's Live at the Dakota.

“It was just that suddenly … I could hear it,” Ravi Coltrane said of an epiphany he experienced during his late teens regarding his father’s music. “And it was almost like a calling, like something saying, ‘Hey, man, come on. It’s time to get serious.’ And the first time you really tune in and dial in and focus like that, it can be very life-changing.”
