Pinging among jazz, Brazilian and classical music, Eliane Elias has been stitching personalized details into recordings since the mid-1980s.

Last year’s Music From The Man Of La Mancha ranked as an intriguing clutch of instrumentals with a backstory of deferred artistic realization, and now the vocalist/pianist returns with Love Stories, due out Aug. 30 on Concord. “Baby, Come To Me,” a cut off that forthcoming recording, debuts below.

“I like the message of cultivating a relationship, of keeping the romance alive when you find someone you love,” Elias said about the song in a press release.

On the tune, originally recorded by Patti Austin and James Ingram in 1983, Elias hedges ahead of the beat and relaxes behind it, adding her own touch to a well-known hit. It comes among six other covers and a batch of three originals on Love Stories.

“It was just that suddenly … I could hear it,” Ravi Coltrane said of an epiphany he experienced during his late teens regarding his father’s music. “And it was almost like a calling, like something saying, ‘Hey, man, come on. It’s time to get serious.’ And the first time you really tune in and dial in and focus like that, it can be very life-changing.”
