(Photo: Courtesy of the Artist)For most, Málaga, Spain, exists as some theoretical ideal, a coastal city that offers the amenities of modern life alongside Moorish and Renaissance-era architecture. And while not everyone’s likely to have the opportunity to visit the town, drummer and bandleader Allison Miller transports listeners there with a tune that takes its name from the place of Pablo Picasso’s birth.
Below, find the premiere of “Málaga,” a tune off Glitter Wolf (Royal Potato Family), the upcoming Boom Tic Boom album, due out Feb. 1.
A song largely focused on Myra Melford’s piano and how it interacts with Miller’s sturdy funk, “Málaga” still provides space to feature contributions from Ben Goldberg’s fluttering clarinet, Jenny Scheinman’s gamboling violin and Kirk Knuffke’s oaky cornet.
