In an effort to foster a sense of community and to bolster the lives of jazz players and fans, Jazz at Lincoln Center is endeavoring to post music, lectures and essays to its website during the coronavirus pandemic.

“Although our hall may temporarily be dark to audiences,” Managing and Artistic Director Wynton Marsalis wrote in a press release, “the light and love in this music will shine brightly.”

According to a release, Marsalis is set to host chats dubbed “Skain’s Domain: An Intimate Weekly Conversation” at 9 p.m. EST Mondays through June 1, and then share the content on social media. And on March 25, JLC began posting previously unseen video content from its archive. Videos from its Jazz Academy series also will be made available online.

“It was just that suddenly … I could hear it,” Ravi Coltrane said of an epiphany he experienced during his late teens regarding his father’s music. “And it was almost like a calling, like something saying, ‘Hey, man, come on. It’s time to get serious.’ And the first time you really tune in and dial in and focus like that, it can be very life-changing.”
