As he has almost every year since 2009, pianist Keith Jarrett will return to Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage on Feb. 15 to perform one of his exclusive improvised solo piano concerts. This will be his only North American solo concert in winter 2017.

Over the past 45 years, Jarrett’s improvised solo piano concerts and recordings have incorporated a broad spectrum of musical languages from jazz and classical to folk and ethnic music traditions. The improvisations on his solo piano recordings such as Solo Concerts, Sun Bear Concerts, Paris Concert, Vienna Concert, La Scala, Radiance, The Carnegie Hall Concert, Testament: Paris/London, Rio and Creation, are standard-bearers of the genre, and his 1975 ECM album The Köln Concert is the best-selling solo piano recording of all time.

In November 2016, ECM Records released A Multitude of Angels, an archival four-CD box set featuring four complete improvised solo piano concerts recorded in Italy in October 1996 in Modena, Ferrara, Torino and Genova that Jarrett has called “a pinnacle” of his career.

A recipient of a NEA (National Endowment of the Arts) Jazz Masters Awards in January 2014, Jarrett was voted into the DownBeat Hall of Fame in 2008 via the International Readers Poll.

Tickets for Jarrett’s Carnegie Hall concert are on sale now at the Carnegie Hall Box Office, 57th Street & 7th Avenue in New York. They can also be purchased by phone at (212) 247 7800 or online at www.carnegiehall.org. DB

“It was just that suddenly … I could hear it,” Ravi Coltrane said of an epiphany he experienced during his late teens regarding his father’s music. “And it was almost like a calling, like something saying, ‘Hey, man, come on. It’s time to get serious.’ And the first time you really tune in and dial in and focus like that, it can be very life-changing.”
