(Photo: Courtesy of Artist)When Chick Corea arrives in Los Angeles for a residency next week, he’ll be joined by collaborators he has known for more than 30 years. The Chick Corea Elektric Band will play at Hollywood’s Catalina Jazz Club from May 30 to June 3, performing two sets each night.
In addition to Corea on piano and keyboards, the all-star quintet includes Eric Marienthal (saxophones), Frank Gambale (guitar), John Patitucci (bass) and Dave Weckl (drums). Dubbed the “classic lineup,” this ensemble recorded the 1987 album Light Years, the title track of which earned Corea one of his 22 Grammy Awards.
This lineup of the Elektric Band also recorded the albums Eye Of The Beholder (1988), Inside Out (1990), Beneath The Mask (1991) and To The Stars (2004).
In July and August, Corea will tour Europe with his Akoustic Band, a piano trio that includes Patitucci and Weckl.
