The Blue Note Jazz Festival, which began June 1 and is scheduled to run through June 30, includes a spate of national and international performers for its eighth edition.

On June 24–25, trumpeter Chris Botti is set to perform at Sony Hall in Times Square, a venue operated by the Blue Note Entertainment Group, the organization behind the festival as well as the club of the same name. Other performers at the festival, which is spread throughout venues across the city, include Al Di Meola, Manhattan Transfer, Monty Alexander, Victor Wooten Trio, Art Garfunkel, Lettuce, Sergio Mendes, Bilal and more.

The festival has forged a partnership with the European Union Delegation to the United Nations, as well as nine EU member countries, to present the European Sounds Series. Beginning June 2, the series will take place Saturdays and Sundays throughout the month at the Blue Note club. Greek bassist Petros Klampanis is among the acts slated to appear.

“It was just that suddenly … I could hear it,” Ravi Coltrane said of an epiphany he experienced during his late teens regarding his father’s music. “And it was almost like a calling, like something saying, ‘Hey, man, come on. It’s time to get serious.’ And the first time you really tune in and dial in and focus like that, it can be very life-changing.”
