PBS will debut a Great Performances episode with Tony Bennett and Diana Krall on Saturday, Nov. 24.
(Photo: Mark Seliger)Fans of the Great American Songbook should check their local PBS listings because on Nov. 24 the series Great Performances will debut its episode featuring Tony Bennett and Diana Krall. The singers will interpret the compositions of George and Ira Gershwin, focusing on material that appears on Bennett and Krall’s recent collaborative album, Love Is Here To Stay (Verve/Columbia). The October issue of DownBeat included a feature on Bennett and Krall.
The Great Performances episode includes renditions of “Fascinating Rhythm,” “They Can’t Take That Away From Me” and “Love Is Here To Stay,” as well as interviews with the artists in which they talk about the Gershwins’ work. Bennett and Krall also discuss their decades-long friendship and their collaborative approach to these classic tunes.
