Bake’s Place to Host Visiting Songbirds Series

I   Vocalists Nancy King, Rebecca Parris and Nancy Kelly are among several jazz vocalists who will perform at Bake’s Place as part of the club’s Visiting Songbirds series that launches in January and runs through the summer.

Bake’s Place, located in Issaquah, Wash., recently underwent remodeling to increase seating capacity to 74.

Some of the other artists scheduled to perform as part of the series include pianist/vocalist Jennifer Scott and saxophonist Kirsten Strom, Madeline Eastman, Latin vocalist Kat Parra, Jackie Ryan, bassist/vocalist Belinda Underwood with pianist Benny Green, Jeni Fleming, Amandah Jantzen and Denise Perrier.

“We’re thrilled to be able to bring in these wonderful singers,” said Craig Baker, who owns and operates Bake’s Place. “For some of them, it will be their first time performing in the Seattle area.”

“It was just that suddenly … I could hear it,” Ravi Coltrane said of an epiphany he experienced during his late teens regarding his father’s music. “And it was almost like a calling, like something saying, ‘Hey, man, come on. It’s time to get serious.’ And the first time you really tune in and dial in and focus like that, it can be very life-changing.”
